Fabulous vintage’Cercle Tournant’ small animated table or desk clock. Metal and glass with strong Art Deco design elements throughout. The clockworks by the Toyo Clock Factory, Japan. This clock is wound up all the way and not running. It’s missing one of the Koi fish which are normally inside the glass’aquarium’ sphere, both usually attached to the movement train. When running both fish move back and forth in an animated fashion as if swimming while the clock ticks. This clock is outstanding cosmetically, immaculate, and with its original factory finishes. The existing fish needs to be re-attached to the movement, and a mate found or made. Fortunately you will have one of the original Koi fish to use as a model for fabricating a mate. The wind-up clock mechanism is complete and looks excellent. The balance moves freely, no obvious damage, no evidence of prior repairs or tampering. As you see this rare clock is very impressive in scale, execution, and detail. It measures about 5-1/4″ tall, and 4-5/8″ long. A portion of what may be the original paper label or export stamp remains on one corner of the base. Few of these fantastic clocks have survived. This is only the second one I’ve seen in person in over 30 years of watch and clock collecting.
